Visiting Time is a great song, and I can relate to it. What I like about John's music is that it's not your typical "I'm so sorry I love you really please come back" pop music. Life is more than that and there's pain and beauty in more stuff. Like, being lost in your own life, insecure, not knowing what to do, or simply, other 'types' of love like friendship or family. That's the kind of stuff that makes me feel like that song is exactly what I feel.

I think one of the great things about John's music is, that it affects us all in different ways, so we all 'create' our own story with each song Quite often we feel the same about his music, tho our stories are different As for songs about love or lovesongs.. there is no rule that says you literally need to sing 'I love you' to make something a lovesong For me, Public Apology is definitely a love song... Perhaps not the 'boy meets girl, they fall in love and live happily everafter lovesong', but still... Love comes in many ways and when you see/feel you can't love someone back the way you feel someone should be loved, you need to let somebody go, no matter how hard that is But letting go is also an expression of love, knowing that holding on to somebody will not make him/her happy in the end "I had no room for the feelings that you showed towards me. I think that they were misguided anyway. If you knew how I felt inside I think, you would maybe have run a mile, ‘Cause I don’t have time for you, Only time for me, and my selfish dreams" I guess that is what this song is all about for me, no apologies or regrets over breaking up, but the regret of not being able to return the love equally...

great pics and no need to cut anyone out of that pic and toxic drinks??? prolly intoxicated from the alcohol...lol.. In Rotterdam it was Vodka/Red bull ...
LOL, loraline... maybe in Hamburg it was Vodka/Red Bull too ... if it was 'professional' enough I'd ask in the other thread... but I'm afraid it's not... So the question is... what was in the toxic looking glass?

John: What music do you listen too? Mostly my new ideas. I don't listen to mainstream radio anymore. Too depressing. A lot of classical music. Too broad a question really. sorry. Since I was brought up by a father who was heavily into music (Jazz, Pop, Classic), played the piano, organ and accordion and wrote songs himself plus both my parents being obsessed with opera, quite possibly the greatest Richard Wagner-fans ever to walk the earth, music, inevitably, has always been a big part of my life. As for classical music my favourite composer is Giacomo Puccini, for me no-one comes close. Then Rachmaninov, Chopin, Schumann and particular pieces of music like Ravel's Bolero, Orff's Carmina Burana (preferably performed with the original beginning), Max Bruch's 1. Violin Concerto to name only a few. Questions: Do you have a favourite composer?? Do you like opera as well or do you prefer orchestral music (how is it called in English??)??
I was reading the lyrics to "TBTH" (Budapest) and I knew just by reading the lyrics, John wrote em all. John's lyrics are heartfelt, and you know he's been crushed, but I almost feel helpless in "trying to make it all better". I know a lot of people's reaction to JB after hearing B2B is to just hug him. You have this overwhelming feeling that he just needs a hug. With John, you know a hug won't help. It won't ease the pain, it won't make things ok. He really is a composer. I read somewhere that he usually writes his songs when life isn't all that glorious (who would write about the heartbroken on a 'bright and sunny' day??) As we all know life is a strange thing which sometimes holds a lot of rain. I'm not sure if all of his songs are autobiographical, but obviously, he's been through some rather tough times. I really don't know him personally, but when we met him (briefly) he didn't seem to be a bitter person at all. As for me, while listening to his music I truly find comfort in his melodies and lyrics and I could imagine writing the songs does the same for him. As far as I know, not all songs by some of the greatest songwriters of all time, like Dylan, Drake, Cohen or even Elliot Smith (who has been through quite a lot though), are autobiographical but based on their observation of people and the world around them, somehow like a writer who's telling a story by using his imagination. It's no secret that many of your songs are about pain, hurt, lost love and the unendingly search for meaning in life and they take the listener to some rather dark places, wondering if you've actually been there before. I have to admit, if it was ALL based on your own experience, I'd find it to be a bit of a worrying picture. Quite a lot to bear for only one man!?! Question: Are all those sad songs autobiographical?? I'm sorry that my post got so long again...

Hey John, today I was thinking of my last question again, and I can imagine that it must feel pretty odd to have perfect strangers worrying about your mental well-being. I'm sorry... I guess the reason why I feel so strongly about it is because 1.) I'm listening to the saddest of your songs far too often AND 2.) your voice - which is so painfully intense at times - and the way you convey what you wrote make it sound so absolutely honest and heartfelt that it's hard to believe that it possibly wasn't always you who went through all the hurt, the pain and the loneliness. After all, as for your inspiration you did answer that before: where does your inspiration come from, how do you pick the red lines in your music? The inspiration comes from anything and everything. Impossible to narrow that one down I'm afraid. Whatever moves me I will write about. So, let's forget about the second part of my post above. But to keep your head from getting lazy , here's another question (a little less personal (?) and verrrry professional ;D): What is your Golf handicap, if you have one??

Hello John, There is one thing I was thinking about that came back to my mind today. :-) Do you find it difficult to learn new songs to play in a band? Or do you just listen to the music and know what to play? Did you have to practise a lot when you started playing for James? I somewhere read that chord names don't matter to you because you learned how to play them all by yourself, so I was just curious about how you learn to play those new songs. Thank you so much!
