How many guitars do you own? And how many guitar pedals?
Who do you think is the greatest guitarist of all time?
What type of stuff would you be playing/writing if you were 20 today? Do you think it would be like what you are doing now or would it be vastly different?

I was wondering, as Garrison is such a distinctive name, have you ever considered using it on it's own - like Morrissey and Daughtry - when you are releasing your solo work?
Also, when you've been doing your own gigs and your own music as you have recently, do you/will you find it difficult to go back to playing bass for other people?

"For those not there, here was my set" - still no word about your gig at the Leamington Assembly. PLEASE, don't let it be the first gig in ages without posting the set! It's your home town after all. Thank you!! Edit: You have sooo many really amazing songs. Do you like writing setlists for your gigs or do you find it hard to decide which songs to put on there and maybe even harder to decide which songs to leave out?

On twitter, July 20th: "chit chat twit thingy" What does that mean? Are you counting the seconds which separate us from the release of the album?

A recording is only capturing a moment in time. A song lives just like we do. We don't look the same everyday and we all get old and need to adjust accordingly I love the recording part. and then I love hearing the finished version back at the end Is there any song on any of your albums you wish it wasn't 'eternalized' that way on a record because it didn't come off exactly like it was intended or like you've 'heard it in your head'? Or maybe something in a song you would have loved to change but couldn't because the track/record was already finished? And if so, which song? (Sorry, don't really know how to put it ) Ta Ta for now (I hear that's considered slightly posh - Is that true?) J. xx PS: How about this: I'll do the washing up for you (gloves optional), so that you'll find the time to answer our questions? ;D

Do you ever read the other threads in here? LOL, Devlin... I have wondered this too though I don't think I really want to know the answer... I think I would have to scamper away in embarassment at some of my posts!

Questions:
Did it ever happen that an entire song just seemed to exist in your head, without you having to actually write it? Working on Album 3?? I was always wondering about the heavenly female voice at the beginning of "Say Something Wonderful". Is this a part of an aria, sung by one of your sisters? Still not entirely sure if it's you drumming for the Broken Dolls (esp. as for "What The Hell"). So, does their self-titled 2007 album feature you on drums? Do you like links courses? Thank you! Yes sometimes. "I Leave On Friday" was completely finished in my head before I entered the studio. Music and lyrics. There is no demo for this song for this reason. No I was working with Gary Barlow on some of his new tracks. He was feeling very creative and I was on the same wavelength that day. One of those good days where everything just works No it was something I found while channel hopping with my old shortwave radio (the silver one in the photos). No idea what it is or even where it was broadcast from. the presenter spoke in something resembling Russian. It was a chance moment that luckily I was recording at the time. I messed with it a bit to make it in the right key also. Yes I played on the whole album except the track Stronger. I toured with them as their drummer for a year. I also played bass on a lot of the album also. yes I love links courses but they are tough.

That is EXACTLY how I took it...I LOVE IT! Being that I am a thirtysomething that still feels like she has a lot left to accomplish in life....I GET IT! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!!!!!!! ;D I YES!! So do I, Kerpea!! At my high school reunion, the only thing people asked was whether I am married... Then when I said that i am not, they gave me the pity look and said things like, "Oh, it will happen." Meanwhile, I was thinking, "You could ask me about my architectural work... And GLAD I'm not married to any of these jokers!" Guess that's why I love that song so much. It just speaks to me. Thanks, John! I was singing before I could speak. I was writing before I could read All my family are musicians. But all in the classical field "The Caterpillar Song". I wrote when I was 2 years old on the piano. Aw! Sweet! Is there video of you performing this when you were little? If so, is there any chance of you uploading it on your YouTube page? Speaking of the classical field, have you ever considered going into it? "Ongoing" is quite lovely so far; could it possibly be a small part of a larger work? I think it would make a very pretty ballet. I love the strings on the beginning! They remind me a little of Barber's "Adagio for the strings." Was that at all an inspiration for that piece? I would love to go into this area of music one day but not right now. "Ongoing" is currently 8.5 minutes long and growing. The biggest influence for this song was in fact Ennio Moriconne" and his wonderful soundtracks No videos of this but my Mum has a tape of me singing at a concert aged 4. If you can hear over the crowd all going "ahhhhhh" then its not bad. I could hold a tune, even if my voice was a little fragile.

When did you work with Gary Barlow? How was it? I'd love to know a bit more about this, please "And shut the door behind, I can’t go back With bags on the ground, tell me" "I keep shut my eyes in denial. Trying to find my way back home" "Step off but we are still moving, step off but I cannot slow it down" "And I’m a million miles away and I’m 5 hours behind But it feels like the right time"... So many sentences and words inside the album (the part of the album we already know) are related to movement, is that why the album it's called Departures? Moving from a city to another on James Blunt tour has something to do with that? I hope next question won't get you angry Why did you change Lost? Didn't you like how it was as demo? Did you think it wouldn't fit on the album? Working withy Gary was wonderful. The guy is probably the nicest guy I have met in the business so far and incredibly talented. I look forward to the next time greatly. It is called "Departures" because the theme of the album is moving on and leaving things behind. "Let's Run" " I Leave On Friday" "Go" etc. Plus of course that was the word I saw more than any other on the tour and thats where the idea came from. In a departure lounge in Korea. I haven't changed Lost...!! It's the same song but recorded properly. The demo was just that, a demo. The original idea. If I hadn't put it on MySpace you would not have heard about it. The version on the album (which is far far far superior) would have been the 1st time you would have heard it. As I have said many times, a demo is an unfinished idea just a snapshot of time. It's just that I make these ideas public, well I used to. The album version, like all the other songs, is just a snapshot of time. I might change this later if I want to. It's up to me. They are my songs.

How do you feel before a concert? Have you ever lost your voice before a concert? Who's the person that writes the setlist, you or another one? Do you have in mind a song that you always liked to play in a concert and you never did (for the moment)? Which one? Usually fine. Never nervous. Sometimes anxious that there are enough people there to keep the promoter happy. Yes. I had to cancel the last few dates of a Spanish tour when I lost my voice to a bad cold. Me usually I look forward to playing "Go' one day but I need a long stage time and a string section.
