I decided to open a new thread where one can tell own stories and feelings one has when listening to John’s music. Do you mind my doing it? I’m sure most of us like John for the lyrics he writes, for music he makes. But maybe some of you have something to tell about how you caught this really amazing disease. I thought it would be quite interesting to know about it. I adore him for sincerity in his songs, i like the way he sings… something deep inside me was touched by his music…

ROFL!!!!
Nice post.
Firstly I didn't have a clue how John was, I only listened Clock Face for months and then the HTTD album, and all the lyrics seemed amazing and unforgettable for me, they're like the soundtrack of my life, and I don't cry for many songs, but I did with Questions (and I still do!).
It's not just for the message into every song, combined with a breathtaking music, it's the way he sings, sometimes he whispers, and that touch of bittersweet sadness and melancholy that feels so good, and that someone felt in any moment of life.
After first concert, I became a real fan of him just because he sounds sooooo much better on stage(that's what makes a singer better!), and I remember very well that I was caught by his modesty, he humbly asking people to stop clapping as mad, and he smiling shyly because people didn't stop. That's an image I'll never forget.
And next times we met, he always showed that modesty, always so friendly and very kind. Not only one of best musicians in the world, but a great person with a big heart as well.

Nice story, Lucy!!!
There are oh so many things I like John for, I can't count them! I had not heard of John until I went to Blunty's O2 gig in London last October. I had no idea Blunty had a new bassist. I thought, "Who's the new, tall one in the back being all cool on bass???" But then again, I didn't know if Blunty and Ben were short or John was really tall... LOL! Seriously though, even though I haven't met him, I think I know what you mean, Lucy, about his modesty. I will always remember my making him nervous with my filming and staring... He didn't seem to have the typical Rock Star ego. I guess that's why I Googled him after the concert... And oh what a wonderful surprise it was! The first moment I herd his music, I was struck by his incredibly heartbreaking lyrics, his unique, lovely musical sound and mostly with the beauty of his voice.

Not only one of best musicians in the world, but a great person with a big heart as well.Aww, Lucy, I love how you put this. This very sentence really says it all. It's exactly that. I still remember when I met John for the first time after the James Blunt-gig in Berlin in March 2008. When I asked him to sign "Above The Cosmos" he smiled brightly and said "Oh, my album?!" as if he couldn't quite believe and then wrote THANKS next to his signature. It was a moment I'll never forget. Every time he'd come out after a show he was so friendly and kind, taking pictures with everyone and signing stuff. The most personable, down-to-earth artist imaginable. Other than that I like him for his gorgeous, unmistakable voice that gets right under my skin, his ability to compose the most beautiful melodies I've ever heard as far as non-classical music goes, his unique style of writing and the way he puts all kinds of emotions into words, stories lyrically dealing with themes I so often can relate to, simply and beautifully told with sincere sentiment that never cease to amaze me. I like him for his great musicianship which comes through not only in his singing but also in his passionate, inspired playing of guitar, piano and bass (can't possibly name all the other instruments, just too many...). I like him for three (almost four ) fantastic records that take me on a journey whenever they start to spin, and for about 70 demos, each more fascinating than the last. I like him for "Go", "Happy Hour", "Dream Stealers" and "Ongoing" particularly. I like him for his amazing live-performance that must be seen and heard to be believed. I like him for his unwavering integrity and his attitude towards the music industry, for never selling his soul to the devil of the same name, and for his strength and stubbornness to "never give up anyway". Then I like him for his way with words, for answering all our questions personally, for his Newsletters and Tales of NYC that make me smile whenever I read them. I like his wit and honesty, and I like it when the 'bad boy' comes shining through. I can't deny that I also like him for his looks (oh, you knew that already? ). And I'm having a hard time, really, finding anything that I don't like about him. OK, I still don't know what to make of "Rendezvous"... but that's about everything I can think of. This time it's not my fault that my post got so long... it was you who got me started with your question...

I certainly wouldn't spend the better part of my life on this board if he wasn't such an outstanding artist. It's hard for me too to explain it exactly in words, wish I could do it in German just once, would be much easier. You did explain quite well how you feel about John and his music, nika, and it's nice that you started this topic.

Well, this was then - by now I absolutely love "Rendezvous", it's really grown on me. Pretty weird yet great sounds in there! Will have to think very hard now to find something else that I don't like about Mister Garrison. Hmm, I've read he's sh!t at Trivial Pursuits... okay, this is a serious downer as I love Trivial Pursuits... actually, to all my friends and family I'm known as the "Queen of TP"... but maybe he's improved on that one... who knows...

That's not a reason! Trivial Pursuit is so difficult... whenever we play it takes ages to finish and I seldom know anything.

John is an extremely talented musician. His music, lyrics and voice are so deep, it's emotionally awakening. I only came across John through James Blunt, and I feel fortunate that I did. I also feel that John is such a down-to-earth person, very friendly and warm - he really puts you at ease. He chatted away very relaxed with us, which really made our night. He seemed pleased to sign our tickets (and like Jade, he write THANKS next to his signature), and to have a photo with me. This meant so much to me, but as much as we regard him so highly, he takes it all with a pinch of salt! A lovely man with a true gift for music, and I really hope that he makes it big with his solo album, he deserves it.

Trivial Pursuit is so difficult... whenever we play it takes ages to finish and I seldom know anything. Thought about it again, you're right, Gray, that's not a reason. If (only! ) I had to choose, I'd rather live with John being sh!t* at Trivial Pursuit than Bono and his hairy chest... (*... being 'cosmos' sounds much nicer, of course... ;D ;D )

Hey, I didn't know we were choosing between Bono and John?! I dearly LOVE Bono but I do agree with you, Jade! If they had a John Garrison totebag, I would get it instead of the Bono one. ;D Jade, I think that we must have been identical twins separated at birth! Another thing we have in common... I LOVE trivia too! I watch Jeopardy every day. At my old office, they always had a trivia question of the day on the daily news email and I was know as the trivia Queen of the company!

We seem to have more in common than my real twinsister and I had. So while shoe-shopping we might as well test our trivia skills. I'm rather knowledgeable when it comes to California punk rock bands, European Royals, Italian opera, Impressionist painting and figure skating championships. I'm sh!t at theoretical physics, Presidents of the United States, the medieval times, and my geographical knowledge isn't up to much, either. Maybe we can team up in one way or another. ;D If (only! ) I had to choose, I'd rather live with John being sh!t* at Trivial Pursuit than Bono and his hairy chest... ... as if I had any consolidated findings about the (hair)condition of John's chest... Hmm, maybe this.....that's all, but it looks good... 'totebag material' I'd say ;D ;D Oh dear, gotta stop this 'chatter from the hen house' before I get banned from the boards for hijacking this lovely thread.. .

Maybe we can team up in one way or another. ;D ;D Aw, Jade! It's funny that you say that because I was just thinking that I have had more conversation with you than my own sister recently and I should probably have a sister day soon. Love of Dave Matthews is the most I have in common with her. If I say something is red, she says it's blue. We are competitive. We have opposite taste in men and since my last break-up, she is always trying to fix me up with the wrong guys... It's kind of funny. I love her a lot though!!! Did you have a real twin or were you joking? My grandmother was an identical twin. Anyway, sounds like we would make a good trivia team as I am s!it at opera and am a little weak on my California punk bands but am pretty good at geography and US presidents. My best categories are Art, Litereture, History and Entertainment. I kick booty at Classic Movies (except Westerns). My best knowledge is in 50s-60s Rock and 50s-80s tv... I rock at the old motown bands and classic American televison sitcoms. Unfortunately, my worst category is physics and I know absolutely diddley squat about the internal combustion engine. I am good at golf and tennis trivia but am not that good at history of other sports. Maybe we can play trivia and shoe shop at John's next gig... If he ever posts one!!! Hint, hint, John! If (only! ) I had to choose, I'd rather live with John being sh!t* at Trivial Pursuit than Bono and his hairy chest... ... as if I had any consolidated findings about the (hair)condition of John's chest... Hmm, maybe this.....that's all, but it looks good... OMGROFLMAO at the water ballet shot!!!!! Definite totebag material! I now have a new screen saver... Hehe! Little known fact: James Blunt was actually Jennifer Grey's stunt double in the lift scene from "Dirty Dancing!" LOL! Is John really that strong that he can hold another man over his head or is Bluty really, really light? BTW, Is that Karl in the foreground? Nice shoulders! He looks a bit pink on his back... I wonder if he remembered his sunscreen? Ha, I sound like a Mom, I know, but with my Scottish/English heritage, I have had way too many sunburns in my life. Sidebar: I hope everyone is getting their yearly dermatological cancer screenings as I just had a precancer sun damage on my leg removed. Anyway, back to that hilarious pic... They all look pretty nice, I think! Oh, My! It is getting a little naughty in the hen house, Jade! So to quote Snoop Dog, "Now, back to the lecture at hand," or back to what I like John for: Here are my top 10 Reasons in random order as I can't play favorites between the kiddies: "Happy Hour," "Convincing Myself," "Below the Radar," "Easy Water," "Get Me Home," "Public Apology," "Nothing New," "I leave on Friday," "So Close," and "Lost." Oopsie... Can't forget "Questions!" That's 11!! I also love John for his board and for his great boardies who, from all parts of the world, make this little southern gal laugh on a daily basis!
