2nd For The 1st Time
I stepped out the taxi cab on 2nd avenue for the 1st time I never even set eyes before. But I see my footprints all around here My guitar, borrowed suitcase, borrowed floor There’s nothing more to say, I know I had to come And I’m a million miles away and I am all alone But it feels like I am home
I walked around, went underground and I see how I could survive here I see a million hungry eyes that I recognise from mine here I was right, just my judgement that was wrong There’s nothing more to say the moment has now gone And I’m a million miles away and I’m 5 hours behind But it feels like the right time
I hear a distant call and I know that I have to leave here I pack up all my things, I say all my goodbyes, close the door here We were right, just bad timing I suppose There’s nothing more to say, you know I got to go And I’m a million miles away and I left you there alone So I’ll say goodbye, I’m going home

Wow... These lyrics are so touching. I can't wait to listen them completely. Why they make me think of New York??

I love the line "My guitar, borrowed suitcase, borrowed floor." I had a similar experience when I studied in Paris for a semester... Though it was my sketchbook, borrowed suitcase, borrowed floor. Haha!

It's said 'A picture is worth a thousand words' and as for this one that's true somehow. Still, nothing beats saying it in music and I'm glad he bothered to do so. I'm really stuck on '2nd For The 1st Time' at the moment. Soooo beautiful and the perfect album closer.

I'm really stuck on '2nd For The 1st Time' at the moment. Soooo beautiful and the perfect album closer. Me too, Jade! "2nd for the 1st Time" is running a close second to "So Close" on my play count. It just has "je ne c'est quoi!" It has an indescribable beauty that tugs at your heart. You are right, Jade, it is the perfect closer for this album. I love that picture of John just standing there all cool on the streets of NY with his guitar and his boyish, mischevious look on his face. How does he always manage to look so cool in all his pics? I ever look that cool in any of mine.

So cool on the 99,9% of the pics from my point of view.... ROFL@Twitter pic ;D ;D ;D (no offense intended ) Addicted to this song without notice.... Maybe it's because my bedroom is full of boxes with all my cd's, the lilttle fairies, my cd's, my books, my cd's, my teddy bears.... And I have to pack more cd's! And I already started to say my goodbyes, I don't like it all, but I have to... A good piece of advice would be great... I'm anxious to start my new life, and Departures is making the change easier, it's like the last push of encouragement

Yeah, Lucy, ROFL at the "Massive Hangover" pic on the old twitter profile. ;D (Only teasing a little, John! Sorry! That pic actually makes me smile! It always makes me think, Man, that must have been some great, FUN party the night before! Sometimes I wish I could "party like a Rock Star!" Hahaha! I hate that song, by the way!) WOW! Advice?? HMMM... I'm never good at giving advice when people want it but when they don't is only when I'm good at it. Hahaha! Anyway, good luck! OK, here's my cheesy, cliche quote straight from Julie Andrews in The Sound of Music: "Whenever God closes a door, he always opens a window." Insert rolling eyes here! Seriously though, it's always sad to leave a place that one has known as home, but I rather like the excitement of leaving for a new place. The endless possibilities of a new city, new beginnings, etc. are quite thrilling and liberating, even if they are a bit scary. When I moved to Miami from Birmingham, I was terrified, but it was the best adventure of my life. My move from Miami to North Florida last year was not so great but still an adventure and a catalyst my next move, that I hope to make soon, either to NY or LA. I wanted to move to London but evidently, they don't like to give jobs to us, Yanks, I guess (though I'm not a Yankee but a belle). Anyway, we'll see what happens. Anyway, my point was that moving is more exciting than staying still, in my opinion. Perhaps that's a particularly American way of looking at things.... "Manifest Destiny" and all of our expansion and that moving westward stuff. I think I'm starting to babble again, so anyway, you are moving to Madrid, right? That is LOVELY! I'm jealous! Have fun and good luck! "Departures" is the perfect soundtrack for a move, I would say! ;D "I leave on Friday morning" Lalalala..... ;D ;D

ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!!! thanks so much for your advice Missy (you're NOT babbling at all ). So interesting to know that you moved a lot I admire you. I'm not a person prone to make changes, I hate them, I only moved once, I was 8 and it was horrible... Luckily we came back to Alicante 2 years later But this time is soooo different, I'm so happy to make this change because of what it means. As the song once said: I narrow down to one. The search is all over. I’m looking for no one And I'm going to do whatever is in my hand to be with him ;D. And he's from Madrid! What more can I ask for? Well, maybe someone to help me with the boxes LOL ROFL@I leave on Friday morning lalalala!!!! I usually write to my boyfriend "I leave on Friday morning, and I'll have you next to me, spending all my time, taking in, and making memories, and I want you to know I'll have the time of my life..." ;D

Hi Lucy, the only advice I could give 2 You is just: -Listen 2 your Heart, it'll show the way to Your Future Happiness although NEVER BURN THE BRIDGES BEHING YOU....................... As in my experience the move for my " chosen 1" was pretty worthwhile as he is from Britain and I was from Budapest/Hungary and we met in Munich/ Germany in 91 and married in 1993. Now we have 2 wonderful daughters age 10, 6 and a beautiful home............... I must admit that there were times when I thought I've given up a lot for Him, 4 this relationship (leaving my family, friends, studies., change of cultures, people, scenery....LEAVING EVERYTHING BEHIND.....( borrowed suitcase, borrowed floor>>>In a million miles away and I'm all alone, but it feels like I'm Home. I'm wishing You Very best of Luck with Your moving and John's Departures Album'll be there 2 see You off and welcome You in Madrid!!!!! You know You'll be able to join in and watch John's Performong in THE REGAL ROOMS via a LIVE camera on stage, just register at this Addres: info@whereitsat.tv

AWWW, Lucy! That's sweet! I love what you do with "I leave on Friday!" CUTE! I'm glad the search is all over for you and I admire you for following your heart. Ah, youth and LOVE! I'm a wee bit jealous! The older I get, I am more skeptical. I am too SELFISH and STUBBORN... "I don't have time for you. Only time for me and my selfish dreams" is too eerily me. Well, also "High walls years in building. They keep out hurt and bleeding" and "We talked of our tomorrow but you never came" also apply to me. Hahahaah! Man, Garrison lyrics really can apply to alot of things in life! I'm so glad to have discovered his beautiful musc. Anyway, best of luck with the move and crank the Garrison in the old iPod! It will be a nice 2 years in Madrid, I think! You can go to The Prado any time you want! How incredible is that? Hey Mi Lucita, "I see your footprints all around there!" ;D @napsi, is such a lovely story of you, your husband and your girls! Congratulations! I think Lucy and Napsi have put a little tear in my eye today, but in a good way!!!

thank you Missy for your sweet comments and good wishes! I'm getting nervous day after day, the 8th will be my Friday morning But it will be more like: I leave on Tuesday evening LOL@footprints! So true, I've been going to Madrid every single summer since I was 3! That makes SO MANY years ;D And it's the place where I felt so great always, no matter who were with me or if I was alone, I like to feel the freedom of being myself without worrying about anything, and enjoying those secret places, and another ones who brings me so many good memories, but above all, the feeling of taking a deep breath and feeling my heart full of happiness, the feeling of being lost inside so many people, walking so far and not able to feel my legs, relaxing in a bank watching people walking.... This is the real me, And this is where I am free I've always said that Madrid is my home. And our house is almost finished! I've been watching the pics and I caaaaaaaaan't wait!!! Instead a love nest, we'll have a love hole, it's so small, but it's for the two of us (of course, there will be always a bed for any garrison fan or thatter - said by my boyfriend, ha ha!) Sorry for writing a lot but it's just I feel so... more-than-happy! ;D ;D ;D
