Tough decision... Had to go with "So Close" though "I want you," "Go," "2nd For the 1st Time," and "Rendezvous" all have put a spell on me.... OK the whole album has really! I LOVE them all!

This is really tough!!!
I had to vote "Go" as this one is simply unbeatable in my book. For the music, the vocals and not least for the 'dream stealers' reference.
Though Cold Coffee, Lost, Footprints and I Leave On Friday might as well be my personal #1. This is sooo hard!!
Actually, each song is my favorite until the next one comes on!!!

Are we entitled to vote a favourite part of a song, too?? If so, for me, it's got to be the closing musical statement in "Once Around The Block". Of course, the entire song is awesome, but this last minute of just orchestral music really makes this song a masterpiece, beautiful beyond words. Along with "Ongoing", it is undeniably the most gorgeous composition I've ever heard, in contemporary music anyway. I'm in awe!!
Another thing I really like, not just about this song but about the whole "Departures" album: That I can listen from start to end and totally forget about the volume button. One would assume that's something to be taken for granted, but it's not. I've got quite a few albums where it goes from 'Was that silence or was there a soft voice?' to 'CAN YOU TURN THAT DOWN; I'M GOING DEAF!' in a span of roughly 30 seconds. Not so with "Departures" - You'll hear the softest sound or the slightest scratching on the guitar, and also enjoy the most epic crescendo or thumping beats ... and all this at the same volume level. It just sounds right at ALL times, and still has this great dynamic range that is as addictive as the music itself and makes you want to listen again and again and again. (Don't really know how to put it, but you might get the point anyway...)

I understand what you say perfectly, it's so great to find an album with great sound where you can hear almost everything - that reminds of Before I Fall Apart demo, I usually turn up the volume at the end to hear those steps LOL! But Departures quality sound is great. In my opinion, if I have to choose a part of a song, I think it would be the "Tarantino fragment" at Footprints (that instrumental part almost at the end), I love it as much that it's the ringtone of my mobile for everyone and everything! And I absolutely love the piano in Go since I saw the Making Of Departures, at the end above all, it's so beautiful and sad! But the truth is I can't be more proud of being a garriboardie when people look at my mobile when it rings with Footprints with loud volume ;D ;D ;D

Go. I absolutely love the vocal range near the end of the song when he repeats "Go.. run.." So much emotional power there.

Go. I absolutely love the vocal range near the end of the song when he repeats "Go.. run.." So much emotional power there. "Go" is my favorite Departures track too, and I totally agree - John's vocal range really is amazing in there, actually in most any of his songs. He wrote so many songs that are musically brilliant and he always has some interesting stories to tell, but for me, the hook is that gorgeous, soulful voice he tells them with. There's indeed so much emotional power, so much disarming honesty and real passion in his vocals. That's what drew me in right from the first listen and it's what blows me away time and time again.

You know, I originally voted for "Go." But like a lot of you guys, my favorites are ever-changing. My favourite now is Alexander & Annabel. I love the chorus! And the lyrics are beyond creative! Plus I love New York City lol
