So, I've been thinking...we know John has done some Beatle songs & Francis Dunnery & a few others...but is there a song you would like hear John cover?
For me...I think his voice would be well suited for a cover of "Too Much Heaven" by The Bee Gees ;D

Good idea, Kerpea! I would listen to John sing just about anything except my most hated song of all time, "Brick House" by the Commodores! Here are just some of the ones I would most like to hear John sing: "Last Goodbye" by Jeff Buckley "Your Time is Gonna Come" by Led Zeppelin "Just like a Woman" and "Lay Lady Lay" by Bob Dylan "Walking after You" by Foo Fighters "At the Stars" and "Beautiful Mistake" by Better than Ezra "Foolish Fool" by DeeDee Warwick "Say Hello Wave Goodbye" by David Gray "Great Companion" by Landon Pigg "God Only Knows" by The Beach Boys O.K., this is getting kind of long... I guess I'll stop now! LOL! Sorry! John, you better start practicing these for NYC!!!! ;D

Nice thread indeed. I'm in the middle of packing and actually should grab some sleep soon, rather than think about cover songs for Mister Garrison, anyway... Most of all, I'd love if he did a cover of Radiohead's "Videotape" ... other songs I'd like to hear him sing would be: "Mermaid Blues" - Tom McRae "Jealous Guy" - John Lennon "Wild is the Wind" - David Bowie (was a cover too I think, don't know who sang it originally) "Wicked Game" - Chris Isaak "Miss Misery" - Elliott Smith "Eyes Without a Face" - Billy Idol "All My Love" - Led Zep .... that's it... for now anyway...

What about "Wonderwall"... maybe just the chorus... @ John Actually, I wanted to say that I'm really impressed with the covers you did thus far. I think up to now, I've heard you doing Frankie Goes To Hollywood - "The Power of Love", Francis Dunnery - "American Life in the Summertime", Radiohead - "No Surprises" and "Paranoid Android", Wham - "Club Tropicana" and Springsteen - "Born To Run". That's quite an eclectic concoction and wide range of styles, yet I loved your rendition of each and every song of the above. You just can't do wrong... must be your incredible voice and great musicianship. Looking forward to hear some more one day (maybe even the Beatles stuff you did back in NYC a couple years ago). Speaking of cover songs - I had to think of you when I saw Tom McRae in London on St. Patrick's Day. I'm a sucker for a good pop song. I hum "Umbrella" all the time.....eh eh eh !!! Looks like Mister McRae is a sucker for a good pop song, too! www.youtube.com/watch?v=8IRpXOGuzRI(6:08 into the clip)

I agree! I love all the cover songs, his voice really does make all of them very special. And I like that he performed even the one song which didn't seem to be his favourite so well.

Ah yes, lovely song and it sounds particularly great on just acoustic! "Nobody said it was easy, No one ever said it would be this hard" - that one must be about us Garrison-music-junkies, desperately waiting for John's new babies to see the light of day. As for a Coldplay cover, I recall that at a private gig @ the Cricketers in Leamington, John agreed to play "Yellow" due to phenomenal popular demand, but judging by the look on his face at 0:49 he didn't seem too thrilled about it: "For you I bleed myself dryyyyy..." - Awww.. - and yes, it was indeed 'all yellow' Funny to see or rather hear the crowd going totally crazy, singing louder than the travelling faithful at a ManU away game. ;D. Reminds me of a similar situation when I saw English singer/songwriter Tom McRae at the Scala in London, where he did Rihanna's "Umbrella" and then said to one of his bandmates:"Did you notice, Brian, that there's a difference between a popular song and one of mine? F*ck it!". www.youtube.com/watch?v=8IRpXOGuzRIOkay, since we're at it, I LOVE LOVE LOVE John's cover of "High and Dry", originally by Radiohead, performed at the same gig in Leamington: Nicely done and the guitar sounds just AMAZING. Also great to see Johnny boy smile and having so much fun... and super sweet how he's struggling with the lyrics at 2:17 - Well, it's someone else's song, so you're allowed to fuck it up occasionally

It'd be really great to hear John's version of Tears and Rain ( James Blunt). Such a very powerful song indeed!!!!!!!!1
