Just got back from the gig. I'll write a proper review later, for now it's just the setlist: Let's Run I Leave on Friday So Close Alexander & Annabel No Surprises Is This The Best It Gets 2nd for the 1st Time Rendezvous
I discharged my boardie duty and took videos but still have this bad camera so don't know how they turned out.
Best thing of the evening though was seeing John's face when he saw us ;D And seeing Viktor of course.

Lucky you, Gray! Glad you got to go! I'm soooo Jealous! Post-Garrison Blues just kicked in! Looking forward to your videos and review.... They had a baby in a bar? Victor must have had a really good fake id! The door guy from The Living Room obviously wasn't there... He almost didn't let me in because I had left my license in my jeans from the day before and I only had my passport with me. I guess I should have taken it as a compliment but I was going to be really mad if he didn't let me hear Johnny Gee!

High Five Jenny for making it to Copenhagen. Thanks for posting the setlist. I pretty much look forward to your review and videos. Nice one, Missy! ;D ;D And of course, take it as a compliment!!

Live review ;D Anika and me found Cafe Retro (again - we had been here about 2h ago but were told that the gig would begin at 9). The place is PACKED and we don't have a seat..oh well... nice place anyway, and with internet access - what more do you want? John already answered our many questions and promised to stay around later. He'll probably be on at about 10

Suffering from severe Post Garrison Blues!! The two gigs were amazing. So was being in Copenhagen - really love this city. Anika and I arrived there very very late on Saturday (by bus, as a flight would have been to expensive) and then had to go on to Holte, where we were couchsurfing. We didn’t do much the next day, just slept in and got ready for the gig. Luckily we arranged enough time to get there - we thought it was somewhere else and then had to walk quite a bit to where the gig actually took place. When we finally arrived, we saw some posters advertising the gig, but instead of advertising for John they mentioned another musician. We thus asked someone who told us that John would play (apparently they had mixed something up as the other musician would play at another gig). Brett Perkins, who hosted the event, was the first to play. As it was an open mic night, several other musicians (about 10) played after him. Some were really good, some not… When they still played, about one hour after the gig had begun, John arrived. I think he was really surprised when he saw us! We had a short chat and then we went back to our table. After the break, Brett played his song “Red Light, Green Light, Go”, which I really liked, and then all the other musicians played again… It took some time until John finally played. It was absolutely amazing, the highlights being Alexander & Annabel, No Surprises and Is This The Best It Gets. I really loved all the songs though, it was nice to hear the acoustic versions again. He also said that he would play again on Thursday, which I had not realized as I had not checked his web page again before we left. Anyway, we had this bus ticket booked and were to go back on Tuesday and though I wanted to stay longer, we did not think that would be possible. By the way, he gave away copies of “Departures” for free that day. We chatted to him again after the gig and mentioned that it would be great if he played in Berlin someday, and he promised to have a look at Marlina’s list with venues she once had sent him. Our couchsurfing host, Aase, is by now a fan as well. She was really impressed with his songs and with his kindness. We went around Copenhagen the next day, ate lots of hotdogs and went shopping (the lucky people in Copenhagen have Topshop!). Stayed up late that night as we talked to Aase for quite a while… and then had to get up early in order to catch the bus. With the minor problem that we did not catch it after all. I didn’t think that to be a problem actually ;D… Anyway, this rather unfriendly German woman in the headquarters of the bus company we went to finally gave in and changed our tickets to Friday and we luckily didn’t even have to pay any money for that. So we went back to Aase (she had told us before that we could come back should something go wrong), went for a nice walk in Holte that day and, saw Frederik VIII's Palæ (where Mary and Frederik are going to live soon) the day after and on Thursday it was gig time again! We were there a bit early so wandered around for a while… when we were back, we said hello to John and then chatted for a while. Then had to write a few postcards… some other people played, too, but listening wasn’t as enjoyable as it was on Sunday as many people kept talking when the musicians played. At about 10, John finally entered the “stage”, starting with “Let’s Run”. I still have the intro stuck in my head, it’s so addictive. In my opinion the sound quality wasn’t as good as on Sunday, but I thoroughly enjoyed the gig. Some people kept on talking though… oh well. The highlight this time was “Det Rent og Skært Nødvendige” - love this one. We stayed around for white a while after, talking to John, talking to another musician called Alex Mendez (who is from Cuba and tried - in vain - to get me to speak Spanish) and just looking at Viktor, who really is the cutest baby ever!! We all left after midnight and then Anika and I had to kill time until 6 a.m. when we had to catch our bus. Must find a way to upload the videos… I do have a few photos on CD-Rom (including one of John and me on which I for once don’t look totally weird I think) so I could upload them, but unfortunately I don’t have them here with me in Berlin. Will upload them as soon as I am home. Lucy "Det Rent og Skært Nødvendige" is the Danish version of the Jungle Book song "The Bare Necessities". It is on youtube (one of the videos I took at the Copenhagen gig last June). And the jingle was very very short.

THANK YOU, Jenny, so much for your great review. I didn't know you got there by bus. Glad you had such a fantabulous time in Copenhagen and that you got to see both his shows and also little Viktor. Of course, we have to work on getting John to play in Berlin one day. I was thinking the Magnet Club (where I did already see many bands/artists, including Brendan Benson/Cory Chisel last year) would be a nice venue, not too big and a cool vibe. Tried to contact the people at the Magnet today only to find out that they have moved to another neighbourhood recently, so will have to check out the new spot first and - if it's fitting - contact them again. See you tomorrow then, Jenny. Can't wait to hear more of your 'LIVE- experiences', please bring some pics if you can. Dann also 16:30 vor New Yorker, wie beim letzten Mal, okay?!?

Thank you so much for your great Review, Jenny! It was just like being there! Looking forward to seeing pics and videos! Did you get a video of the "CDs are for free" jingle? Would love to hear that one! ;D Just for giggles: The Bare Necessities: www.youtube.com/watch?v=TcglnY_xGfcThis was one of my favorite cartoons as a kid and I still remember seeing it at the old movie theater with my best friend when I was about 7. I feel sorry for kids today.... Classic, hand-painted Disney cartoons were so much better than any computerized cartoons today! It's funny to hear John singing it in Danish, on your video, Gray! It's all Greek to me!

Thanks Jade. Yes, the flight would have been too expensive... I'll tell you the entire story tomorrow. Must check flight prices now so maybe I can get a cheap flight to London to see Nerina. I've never heard of the Magnet Club before but it sounds good. I think John really does want to play in Berlin (or maybe he wants us to stop getting on his nerves ) but it's just too expensive and a question of finding a venue. Yes, see you then! Can't wait!

Hey, FOUR boardies at the same time... that's what I would call "Anyone Here"!!! Great to see you all. Wish you could join us tomorrow, Napsi and Missy, and we all could have a nice cup of tea or coffee together and share our fond Garrison memories... one day!!!
Jenny, I'm afraid John will have to cope with us getting on his nerves until he comes to Berlin playing a solo show... this has to work, sooner rather than later!!!
See you tomorrow!
