If anyone knows a better title for the topic, let me know We often find music tells our own story.... for me JBs 'Carry you home' and 'No bravery' hit home... a few years ago, a friend got seriously ill, so her son had to take care of her. I also spent time with her, trying to bring some comfort in her life, tho we all knew it was fatal. We ( her son, his wife, a cousin and I) were with her when she died, a memory that comes back whenever I hear 'Carry you home' Johns 'visiting time' tells the road to that moment.... 'No bravery' reminds me of the reflection of hell when looking in the mirror. Some battles and wars are not fought in the outside world with weapons, but are fought within... Walking on broadway is to me a song of survival and all the good and bad things coming with/from that

It's similar with Walking on Broadway to me, it's all about getting by, about lonelyness and moving on. My mother died when I was nine years old, it was a difficult part of my life and it took me a long time to finally get over it. It was like being thrown into the cold water, from one second to another I had to bear a lot of responsibility that definitely changed my attitudes on life and living. Because of that I often felt/feel like kind of a loner... but I carry on ...and Never Far from Me plays a role in that story, too... it's amazing how we can all relate to these songs in different ways. Abdicate to me is about understanding one's mistakes and that you sometimes need a dramatic change to see everything a little clearer. I don't know why, but every time I listen to that song it tells me something like 'don't bother too much.' It really brightens my days... every song does.

There are just so many songs by John that touch me and mean something to me... more than by any other artist before actually.

not sure how I would/should describe abdicate for me... I can see hwat you mean, flakie I think I would describe it differently... The way I see/feel it, when listening to the song, it reminds me of other things.. whatever we do, there will always be somebody to take our place when we least expect it. And in a way, that is how it is supposed to be, tho we may not like it when it is actually happening. We can object, we can refuse, we can revolt, but we can't keep our place till our dying day.... so when at last somebody has taken over, we have the choice between supporting the one who has taken over, or keep revolting.. either way we choose, we still have the 'dagger in hand' ....

Once again...surfing through the boards...and once again I am compelled to post...LOL ;D
Music means everything to me. I can't remember a day in my life that I didn't have some sort of music in it. When I was growing up my dad use to sit us on the sofa and sing to us...he would sing a lot of The Temptations or The Four Tops and Elvis. Then as I grew up I started to sing too. First, in church then competitively as a teen. I did a lot of show tunes and also played Annie in a school production as well as Maria in West Side Story.
Here are a few songs that have touch my life:
No Bravery - My husband served in Kosovo also...so this one is pretty personal.
Too Much Heaven by The Bee Gees - can anyone really have too much heaven?
Goodbye My Lover - When I found out my husband cheated on me I played this song non-stop.
Happy Hour - This is where my husband and I are in our marriage right now...wishing we were somewhere else.
All Of My Love by Led Zeppelin - all I can say about this one is "WOW"!
