Who are your heroes, if you have any?? Prince, Francis Dunnery, Nick Drake, Mark Hollis, Tiger Woods. . amongst others Since Mister Dunnery got already a mention in the questions thread, I thought we should have a bit more info on him because he's really worth it. I must admit I hadn't heard of Francis Dunnery until I found him mentioned in one of John's newsletters (SPORT BUDA HERO JOURNO, dated 22-Oct-2007 blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.ListAll&friendID=82484211). So I gave his songs a listen (solo work as well as fronting It Bites), and yeah, he's brilliant!!! Funny thing is, I own Santana's album 'Supernatural' for many years but never knew that it was Dunnery who played Rhythm guitar on "Do You Like The Way". Oh, and his website is also worth visiting. As for his words in the news section, that's quite possibly the most entertaining stuff I've ever read, including alarming encounters with a small Romanian circus knife thrower, a starter pitcher from the L.A. Dodgers and Robert DeNiro's step sister's cousin amongst others. Back to the music: Anyone up for "a story about severe emotional problems" "Too much Saturn" - and not enough Moon - Love the title, love the lyrics, but be warned - this song might get stuck in your head for ages (that's at least what it does to me every time I hear it). de.youtube.com/watch?v=9_skSCw-b48&feature=related… side-note:… I think he's got a pretty cute smile…and his swing isn't bad either... ;DHere's another one of my favs… great musicianship and also great stage-presence!!!! "I'm In Love" – and in awe… de.youtube.com/watch?v=85yCBUUZw9k&feature=relatedMister Dunnery plays quite a beautiful guitar!!! Exceptionally skilled. Obviously, he's had all the right heroes (before he became a hero himself ). I wonder if he's been influenced by flamenco as well … maybe I should ask him

Aww, Mrs Garrity is SOOOO right, he IS an amazing artist. Who wouldn't be entirely taken with him, his amazing voice and musical ability and everything else that makes him so adorable!! That leads to Francis Dunnery again, who said he thought that 'Above the Cosmos' was "f*cking brilliant"... couldn't have said it better myself... ;D ;D

Looks like John's hero is getting some pretty big attention over here...Check out this article...
****************************************
Francis Dunnery has been asked by the Barack Obama campaign to sing three songs at Wednesday's Rally in Eisenhower Park, NY ........ Francis Dunnery will be performing three songs at the Barack Obama Rally on Wednesday, Oct 15 at Harry Chapin Lakeside Theater which is in Eisenhower Park, East Meadow, New York. Dunnery will be playing between 3.00pm and 7.00 pm alongside other artists such as Graham Nash, David Crosby and Warren Haynes.
A spokesman for the Barack Obama Campaign contacted Dunnery on Friday to see if he was interested and available and Dunnery is now confirmed for the show.
"I'm not really into Politics" said Dunnery " But I have seen Baracks Astrology chart and it confirms that he is a genuinely nice man with an innate ability to fix what was once broken. He is also the first guy from my generation to run for President so I'm gonna give him my support".
Dunnery continues "Most people get caught up in all the political spin and get blinded by what the spin doctors leak out to the press. I have absolutely no allegiance to any political party or candidate but I feel that Barack is carrying a modern message to a modern American consciousness. The creative output of America always springs from youth and we need someone who can ignite that creative force to insure that our country remains progressive. I think John McCain would have been a good president for the Second World War for his message and his speaking style speaks to an older era".
"I like Barack as a person and I trust him as one of my generation to have the countrys best interests at Heart.

not sure I totally agree or disagree with his opinions on mr Obama and mr McCain, but I can relate to his reasons for doing this performance... As for the music itself, that should be an interesting event to go to

Thank you for posting, kerpea, I didn't know about that.
"I'm not really into Politics" said Dunnery " But I have seen Baracks Astrology chart and it confirms that he is a genuinely nice man with an innate ability to fix what was once broken." - Really interesting approach, and very special to put it that way!!!

Well done Obama... indeed!!! For some reason, I didn't have the shadow of a doubt that he'd get there in the end. I wish him all the very best as he's yet to prove that he really has the "ability to fix what was once broken". It's a big chance but also a tough job, maybe the toughest and loneliest job of all. Hats off to John McCain, I've heard his speech after he knew that he didn't win and I was quite impressed with his words, especially his final statement was really moving. Oh and since we're at it (though it's not exactly the same ): Well done Lewis Hamilton - youngest champion in Formula-1 history!!! I rather like this guy and he really deserved to win... but given his exceptional driving skills plus a girl thingycat (would that be P*ssycat, by any chance?? ;D ) Doll as his lucky mascot, nothing could have gone wrong!! ;D ;D Oh, and the couple even made an appearance here in Berlin only yesterday!!

Hey, kerpea, I saw your post on the 'slap bass' thing and meant to reply, but didn't have the time and now it's gone. I found the video clip of 'Seperate Ways' by Journey to be quite interesting (and very funny, did people really dress that way? ;D). I know what you mean about the bass player as this kind of slapping was very obvious (haven't seen something like this before), but then it somehow looked faked (only for the video?) and IMO didn't have that much of an effect on the sound. Unfortunately, I'm anything but an expert when it comes to such things, but as I take it from John's explanation, playing 'slap bass' or 6 string does not only refer to a certain technique but also to a certain attitude of the bass player. I often thought that, for example, Reginald Arvizu of KoRn does play quite a dominant bass, and as a result, most of their songs are extremely bass driven. de.youtube.com/watch?v=857Wf4fTPn4Well, I may be completely wrong here and it's just the nature of this genre... then let's put it to "The two cents of the clueless", LOL. Hey, I so remember when I was at Live Earth @ Wembley, 07-07-07, and there was this kind of invasion of bassists (Malcolm Moore included), all featured in the same song by Spinal Tap. That really was a nice idea, very special... yey, there's no such thing as too much bass in your life... ;D de.youtube.com/watch?v=EXy0hZDIrmY

Unfortunately I don't have a clue of bassplaying... much less than you, Jade! So I can't comment on your post... except for saying thanks for posting the link to the Spinal Tap video, I didn't know this one before.
