Clock Face
I was miles away thinking about something yesterday, Something I’m doing more each day, all the time. Is it a message? Is it a sign? Is it the time to draw a line? How do I know? But it doesn’t feel natural. Feels too slow.
If I don’t know then who else will? It’s getting to the point it makes me ill And I don’t know if I can turn a page. It feels so wrong, the pressure’s on. I can’t ignore it any longer, I turn my clock to face against the wall. Please be a phase that’s all.
Only my expectant eyes looking for diamonds in the skies. The only one looking for this prize. White in a see of black, I’m going to go and I won’t come back.
I spike myself, I kick and scream. I drag my feet, I won’t come clean, I dead my weight and fall upon the page. It feels so wrong the pressure’s on. I can’t ignore it any longer, I turn my clock to face against the wall. Please be a phase that’s all.
I drag my feet, I dead my weight, I turn my clock to face against the wall.
If I don’t hear then I’ll assume, That everybody’s singing the same old tune, I dig my heals, I will not learn the words. It feels so wrong the pressure’s on. I can’t ignore it any longer. I turn my clock to face against the wall. Please be a phase that’s all.

One of my 3 best top songs over the world and time, thanks for posting. It's a shame it never got the success it deserved

I'm glad someone else has commented on this song. I always thought it was one of the most beautiful lyrics and music I ever heard but no one seemed to agree with me. It sums up for me perfectly what it feels like to reluctantly grow up and I know this is what it is about after John announced it in London at a concert I went to.
I'm sure one day the world will recognise this song for the genius it is. And I can say that so many times with John's music.
Thank you J. You know you have people who love your art don't you?

That's the best line, hard to choose one but in most of the times, I always choose that.
I'm TOTALLY agree with you, PP. In fact, I discovered this song when I was in a not very good moment, I could hardly to say what to do with my life, it was a time full of questions without answer... And then it cames: Clock Face (what a title...) from a group called Budapest (the city? Original name... LOL) Someone, a guy from Sinnamon I guess, gave me a promo-CD, and I listened the song very late at night... And the lyrics were like a light, I could see the answer right in front of me. I don't like big changes in life, but in that moment I needed one, and I can say that Clock Face was what helped me to do this change.
So, I'm not joking when I say that my two faves guys (John and other singer/songwriter/artist/genius/God) mean to me more than they ever could imagine, they don't know how much their lyrics changed my life and made me a better person trough the years.
That's why I can only say "Thank You" everytime I meet them, I guess they should think I'm stupid or something like that, lol

For me it's not impossible ;D It has been, and always will, Clock Face. Not only for its meaning, but also because thank to this song I knew Budapest.

"Clock Face" was my first introduction to Budapest, so it holds a special place for me. I knew I was hooked on Garrison music the first time I heard "Clock Face." The lines that got me were "Is it a message? Is it a sign? Is it the time to draw the line? How do I know? But it doesn't feel natural. Feels too slow." How melancholy... I'm a sucker for the melancholy ones. On a funny note though, what also got me was that, just like the Mike Myers SNL character, Simon, he pronounded the word draw with an r on the end... It's too bad that Mike Myers didn't name that character Johnny beacuse I bet a million bucks that John sang in the bathtub when he was little.

@ missalabama...I just had to share this with you but I have noticed that some British people tend to put that "R" at the end of certain words too. I was watching a video on the Kings of Leon website and a British girl called Oklahoma...Oklahomer...I just laughed and thought of what you had posted on here...kind of the opposite of a Boston accent I suppose...LOL!

LOL, Kerpea! It's very much like the old-school southern Scarlett O'Hara accent. My grandmother had it. She pronounced everything that ended in an "A" with an "R" and everything that ended in an "R" with an "A." Example: Pillar was pronounced "pilla" and pizza was "pizzer." I still laugh about it. It's a runnung joke at my parents' house that whenever I visit my parents, we always order pizzer and sleep on pillas. I googled it. It's a non-rhotic accent. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhotic_and_non-rhotic_accentsLook on the distribution map in the US... They have them in Alabama and Boston... LOL! So, I guess my grandmother probably would have pronounced Zeppelin's "D'yer Mak'er" "Jamaica" as they intended it to be...
