My Morning Sun
My morning sun got blocked by progress There’s a square inch for the children to play And that’s ok ‘cause they all moved inside Pictures of their age sake playing underground far away Change the channel with the blink of a bright eye
Lately I’ve been watching Wondering where it could have gone so wrong How long until we all recognise the wrong way We make everything right Such an oversight, something’s not quite right
I’m hanging on with fingernails As I catch my breath, progress ushers me along Morning sun, where have you gone? Blocked for everyone now
Lately I’ve been watching Wondering where it could have gone so wrong How long until we all recognise the wrong way We make everything right Such an oversight, something just ain’t right
Well upon closer inspection the sun is hollow through And wired up to generators hidden out of view And the kids control their new gods in a world that isn’t real Save it all to memory and tomorrow they’ll prevail And the pre-recorded voices Keep the minions at arms reach And mindless archive music so we have no time to think And the few in their gold towers And the keepers of the keys Live rules of their own making while We’re all on our knees And the mouthpiece of the people Speaks a language I don’t know But look at all out options now There’s no place left to go I want my morning sun

This song is really one of my absolute favourites... I don't know, I can't get it out of my head all day. It's somehow special to me.

And I spent ages trying to find out what the lyrics really mean...

I love your song My Morning Sun, when and in what kind of situation did you write it? Do you think it will be on your next album? Thank you John. It really means a lot to us that you spend your spare time on answering our questions! Thanks! My Morning Sun came about when a new building was built next to my house which blocked out the only sun I had all day that only shone in the morning. I opposed the application to build it but the contractor was a friend of someone on the council so it went ahead anyway. To me it just summed up the world today and the way its all about who you know, not necessarily what is the right thing to do. My anger at "the system and just the way it is" just escalated and escalated and I wrote the music and closing lyrics accordingly. One of my favourite songs lyrically but musically I need a good producer to help me out. Not sure if it will make the next record. Doubtful at the moment but we will see what happens in the studio

Gray, I too spent a lot of time trying to figure out the meaning of the song lyrics... it's great to have a first-hand answer now... who would have thought that there's such a 'real issue' behind the words.
What's wrong musically-wise, btw??? It sounds good just as it is!

Agree with you, I love the music and would not want him to change it!
