I agree, it's too much if you're on all of these social networks... you can't keep them all updated. But the good thing about twitter is that some stars reply personally to what you write to them.

I have only just joined Twitter... and don't know what the difference between that and Facebook is either.

Doesn't he have a twitter page? I've just checked it out, and yes,he does! I have to say that with this forum and myspace and facebook, I have enough. And his website too. But I suppose it's good for him..twitter too. Many sites to spread the word...then the info... I don't know why but now all the artists are in Twitter. Fisrtly it was Myspace, then Facebook, now Twitter.... I don't understand the purpose of Twitter, I don't have to know what the rest of people are doing each moment. It's like the updates in MySpace, finally I was fed up with them, and I don't read any more. As I say..just for spreading the word... Other things... with care. blog.filter-mag.com/filter/2009/04/why-twitter.htmlI agree that it is a lot to keep up with, but all of these social networking sites are a great way to get free advertising...if I had a product to sell I'd be anywhere and everywhere I can. I don't have Twitter but I have thought about letting go of the MySpace and moving to Twitter.

Ohhh, that's great. So much news recently!! ;D ;D For some reason I get a German version of the fan page, don't know how to change it into an English one. .... and in the calendar section it says: The Water Rats Veranstalter: John Garrison Art: Musik/Kunst - Aufführung Wo: The Water Rats Wann: Donnerstag, 2. Juli, 21:00 Uhr bis Freitag, 3. Juli, 22:00 Uhr... hmmm, Thursday, 2nd July, 9pm to Friday, 3rd July, 10pm... that seems a pretty long gig to me... but hey, the longer the better... ;D

Thumbs up - the new fan page on Facebook is really great!! Whoever takes care of it, does a brilliant job! Nice to see that the new album makes already an appearance in the "Discography" section (I wonder what it will look like once the big blue question mark has disappeared!). And now there are even 4 of the new songs, woohoo. www.facebook.com/pages/John-Garrison/80480867724#/pages/John-Garrison/80480867724?v=box_3&viewas=0I need a Facebook account like NOW! Me too!!!! Funny thing is, every time I read the headline "Sign up for Facebook to connect with John Garrison" I feel a slight urge to reply "Hey, I've been listening to his songs for the last 16 months on a daily basis and I connected with John Garrison quite nicely... that will take some beating, dear Facebookers!" - OK... Touché, off to create an account now...

I just feel a bit stupid right now... about the whole facebook thing... I just don't get it... ... but that might be due to lack of sleep... so I'll either try again tomorrow hoping my brain works a bit better then or I'll just leave it and wait patiently for the whole album itself... ok, that just won't happen edit: ok what did I just say about lack of sleep Thanks for the link Jade silly me...

Calling Lucy or any of the other technically talented ones around here. How do I have to make a banner or a clickable link that leads to the "Departures" CD Baby page, to put it on my MySpace. I did something similar about 18 months ago with Cosmos but I can't seem to remember how it actually worked (HTML and all that... ). Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance. Lucy and Kitine, both lovely new avatars!!

THANK YOU, Flakie, for the quick reply and the help. I did already try but as yet didn't get through. I made a banner and did insert the URL into the HTML code like you suggested (actually the same way as with Cosmos back then), yet, it doesn't lead to the CD Baby page. I got a message saying "Terms of violation". Maybe MySpace doesn't allow that kind of advertising on private pages any longer?? Still, the link I put in the 'extended network' section worked, that's at least something. Will give the banner thing another try, though... I don't give in so easily. As for the 'getting John's music out there' mission: I had a big party thrown on Friday. When I played Departures, after the 2nd track one of the guests came over to me and said "That's great, who is it?". I explained that it is John Garrison who just had his 2nd solo album coming out. She said "Why have I never heard of him?" I said he's still a bit of a well kept secret in the music scene and that he also played bass for James Blunt. Then she gave me a questioning look and was like "Why in the world did he play bass for James Blunt, he's got a far better voice than him!!". Despite the fact that I basically don't see the the sense in comparing voices, it made me smile as I knew what she meant... this voice needs to be heard rather than being kept somewhere in the background. After all her begging and saying 'I want this CD and I want it NOW', I finally gave her one of my three Departures copies, and will have to buy some more copies now at the gig in about 4 weeks. Then other friends/guests joined our conversation, making favorable comments on the songs in general and the vocals, the guitars, the cello in particular. I learned that 'Oh, this sounds typical British' was meant to be a good thing, too. Although I felt that their listening to the album for the first time in a rather noisy environment didn't do the songs justice at all, I loved that there was so much buzz going on. So I hope, some of them will have a further listen to actually experience themselves why I'm so VERY, VERY taken with John's music.

Hey Jade, I'm so glad to hear about your party and the response to John's music. I agree with you that it really isn't necessary to compare John to Bunty. I think I unserstand what your friend was trying to say though. John has something lovely and interesting to say with his music and he has a beautiful voice that should be heard. It is a shame he isn't more well known and a shame for him to be backup rather than frontman. At the same time though, I think there is something interesting in the fact that he has chosen to go the session musician route. It shows that he's not a typical egocentric rock star who always has to have everything always be about him. He really gave something nice to Blunty's band, I think. He has an incredible stage presence, even if he is in the back bassing. I love Blunty and I also love John. They have different approaches to music, backgrounds and voices and I think there is room in the music world for them both to be frontmen... At least there is in my iPod!!!

First he takes the hairdressing salons... and then the rest of the world!! ;D Before I forget: All the best, Lucy, regarding your new adventure (moving to Madrid?). I can't come up with good advice as I've been living in Berlin all my life, never moved to anywhere else. Great that listening to Departures helps and encourages you in your current situation!
