Cold Coffee
Teardrops running down my face. But they are not, they are not just mine You are close, I pull you in closer. I breathe the air that flows through your long hair And I feel when you stand up and say goodbye, it will be for good Don’t stand up, and you’re still mine
So stop, fill your coffee up, stop and I stay right next to you Never let it reach the end Stay and you’re still right here with me. But I know how this all ends
It’s getting late, the lights start to come on. The waiter stares, chairs are on tables You dry your eyes, check all your missed calls The time has come, can put this off no more And you stand up, you say goodbye. And with one last kiss, you turn around Subway stop. You walk on down
So stop, fill your coffee up, stop and I stay right next to you Never let it reach the end Stay and you’re still right here with me. But I know how this all ends Stay and our dreams still mean something. Never let them fade away. But we know how this all ends

A thoughtful song, I'm reminded of the sensation of accidentally sipping cold coffee, having that little surprise followed by the disappointment of - not necessarily wasting a good beverage - but rather cutting short the anticipation of the hot drink. When someone has a hot drink, as far as they're concerned, their life is sorted for the next few minutes. The quicker it cools, the faster reality hits.

Cold Coffee took 5 years. I wrote the music way back, but the lyrics were not right at the time and actually about something completely different. It was while in NYC that the story suddenly made sense for that song. I may post the instrumental demo online one day. Keep a look out. 2nd for the 1st time also changed quite dramatically from the 1st time I played it in NYC. Oh yes please!!!... I'm rather looking forward to it.

I've always had a soft spot for Cold Coffee, actually since I first heard it after it was premiered at Rockwood in April 2008. And as stated many times before, I'd travel half the world just to hear Mister Garrison sing those high notes at the end of the live version. I always thought it doesn't get any better... until I heard the album track yesterday. Can't stop listening ever since. Such an irresistible, thick sound, epic somehow... goosebumps all over the place and trembling as much as the song itself whenever I listen. "Never let it reach the end..." Thank you all so much!

... update on the YouTube hits: 10,540 in total now - AMAZING!
I knew it before, the personal #1 thing's getting harder now that I have the album. I still love 'Go' very, very much, but this one is just as great. Currently, 'Cold Coffee' is definitely the album track I listen to the most, at least 10 times a day.
I wonder who threw the tremolo on the guitar or whatever... sounds really, really stunning, as do the vocals and the keys. If you ask me, ain't no such thing as too much ear candy in these cold and dark December days.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=BiZtTglmRlsWOW, nearly 27,000 views within only 2 months - that's more than 400 views per day on average. Obviously it's very popular in South America, though I guess I've been viewing it more than a hundred times too, it's that good. Woo Hoo! WOW! Go, John! Maybe cold coffee should be single no. 2? Oh, I wouldn't mind if Cold Coffee was picked as Single No.2, it's my favourite of the album actually, along with Go. Though I still think I Leave On Friday would be the perfect choice for a single, because it is such a catchy and uplifting tune and has this killer guitar part that blows me away again and again (plus I have an entire video for this song worked out in my head, which (at times quite annoyingly ) is now playing on my mind everytime I'd listen to the song). Cold Coffee took 5 years. I wrote the music way back, but the lyrics were not right at the time and actually about something completely different. It was while in NYC that the story suddenly made sense for that song. I may post the instrumental demo online one day. Keep a look out. Still eager to hear the instrumental demo for Cold Coffee. So, in case you're reading this, John, I know you're always busy as hell (and I seriously doubt this will change once the baby is there) yet, I'd be super happy if you posted the demo online one day. Please, please, please.
