OMG! You have to PAY to get your license there? I had no idea! I feel bad telling you that it's totally free here! I guess that is one way to encourage everyone to use public transportation. We are so spoiled here in America.

Here,....at least in the smaller towns, Drivers Education is part of the high school curriculum. And you can also get a 'Drivers Permit', which means that you can still drive as long as you have a licensed driver in the car with you. That way, you can perfect your skills before taking the test (I live in a farming area). Of course the laws vary slightly from state to state, but that is how it is here in Missouri. If you don't pass, you can just go to the next county over and take it again. When I moved to Nevada, I had to re-take the test just to renew my license and it was a much longer test!

I know when we lived in Japan they had to pay somewhere around $2,000 to get their license. Of course, devlin is right about how it works here in the States...in the majority of the states you can start drivers education at 15 and get your license at 16. I also grew up in a rural area and actually started driving at 14 (though it was illegal)... The cost here is about $20 for the license and the training is free...now I too understand why public transportation is so popular overseas...WOW!

And it's expensive... at least if you have to take extra lessons and fail your test... So true. Here in Spain drive license costs between 300 and 1000 euros, it depends how many tests you fail On the top of that, the price is increasing year after year...

That's what I was just thinking Lucy!!! Perhaps they are thinking that, by the time someone can save up that much money, they would be a more mature driver. Although , in my way of thinking, it's like penalizing someone for being poor. You know, like making it so expensive that only the wealthy can afford it!! Very uncool, but I suppose there is more than one way of rationalizing it!

It could be... Never thought about that, but it could be true what you said, Devlin. Anyway, all I know is that I prefer saving money for (John) gigs instead of driving license for the car I already have, am I silly?

No...No...Sounds like you have your priorities straight!! Karma to you for that!! Besides , public transportation is safer and better for the environment!! I know lots of people who exist quite happily without ever getting thier license. Especially in large cities, it's never necessary to have one.

Do you have terrible neighbors as well? I mean, it would be okay if the neighbors were actually kind, but most of them here are... well... strange people.
