I thought I’d open a new thread in which we can post concert reviews or general information about gigs, upcoming shows or something like that. It seems to me that we do need a Miscellaneous section...
I went to see Paolo Nutini last Saturday. I have to admit that my sister is the most dedicated Paolo fan here, I would actually have preferred a Blunty gig, but anyway... was also a bit sceptical as we had already heard the new songs and they seemed to differ from the old ones, being country-style-like (does this term exist?). They turned out to be really good though. In order to play these songs, there are a few new band members and they did a brilliant job. Furthermore, their former drummer (whom I had never met... why is it so difficult to met drummers??) left and was replaced by a guy called Seamus.
I ended up in the second row, in front of Donny (guitar player) and had a really good view. The gig began at about 9.30 p.m. and lasted for nearly one and half an hour. All in all, they played 20 songs, a god mixture of new and old ones.
"Candy" is definitely my favourite of the new ones, but I also loved "Worried man" and "Coming home".
Got to meet the guys too. I had a collage of photos of the Carcassonne gig last year with me - the photos showing my sister and me with Paolo, Donny and Michael (bass) and one pic showing Michael during the show. He signed it and, considering himself too serious on the picture, decorated the photo with a moustache and glasses. A gifted artist, that guy! Donny signed it too, so did Paolo. I then told him that "Jenny don’t be hasty" was brilliant, mentioning my name, for which he shook my hand and then my sister’s (we were the only ones who got to shake his hand by the way - I love my name!). Got a photo with Donny too... They were so kind, signing all these things and talking to everyone as there were so many people! And they had to catch a ferry as they were to play Nottingham the following day, so taking their time was much appreciated.
I also liked the support act Spleen. I got their CD and all the band members signed it. The singer has a pleasant voice and a good stage presence. Oh, and they have a song called “Jenny” - that is always a good sign...
