Re-reading my U2 Encyclopedia after their recent gig, I stumbled across an entry: "Francois Kevorkian - The DJ from NYC who was the first person to remix a U2 song. It was on the suggestion of Chris Blackwell, the head of Island Records that Kevorkian, a respected New York DJ, was invited to remix the track "Two Hearts Beat As One" from the War album. Kevorkian also remixed the track "New Year's Day". Are you into mastering as well? I have mastered albums in the past, however if I am producing and recording and mixing I like to take it to someone else to master. My pick is the gentleman that mastered "Above The Cosmos" Fred KevorkianIs this the same gentleman who did the U2 remixes in the 80's?

I don't think so, Fred is the Kevorkian that did John's mastering.

I guess I should have 'googled' this instead of keeping you busy... but then, it's always so nice to have you replying, no matter if half asleep or wide awake. Now I did - obviously different gentlemen of the same surname, both NYC based. As ever, thank you! Speeding some love to you via the worldwideweb, hope all is well with you! ~J. xx

Not a question this time (phew... ) I just wanted to say THANKS again for all the info on the restaurants. The day you posted this I was in a bit of a hurry, but now I'm back to Berlin (and the internet) and took the time to 'google' all those restaurants. Really great choices and with your additional info I got an idea what to expect. Loved in particular the first one, "Balthazar". Looks amazing and wow, Michelin guide recommended. Also good to know where to find a 'hangover curing brunch' - one never knows when one might need it. It's all about knowing the right spots... and you seem to know pretty well, Mister Shane! Please feel free to drop your knowledge anytime, really appreciate it! Much love Jade xx

Thank you for updating your website, Matt, great to know what you are up to! I've been to your site quite a few times, how come I've never seen these updates until today? Were they always on the opening page? (I knew I was slow but THAT slow?) ( www.mshane.com/ ) Since you are pretty much into drumming (COOL!) I thought I'd ask you this: Is it a common thing for drummers to use such a drumshield (as seen in the N. Imbruglia videos)? As I take it, it's to make sure that the drummer is not too loud in a small room. I've been to many gigs at rather small venues but never saw someone using a drumshield. I thought it was a question of skill and maybe the gear to keep the drums at an appropriate level? - And, especially in Jazz music, I've heard drummers playing one step above silence, so it's possible after all. Oh, and does worldwide release of "Departures" on Nov.10th mean there won't be a downloadable version available prior to that date? Thank you!

Dunno bout the release, dunno what the PR company has planned. those plexi glass walls are pretty common in tighter live applications on smaller stages etc. i had been working on updates and not uploaded them. i'm going to try to keep it up to date by month from now on. thanks.

I just watched the Flight of the Chonchords- "Business Time" video for the first time and I have to say: OMGROFLMAO!!!!! I think that has to be the most hilarious song I have ever heard! Thanks for making my day, theafroshane! Karma coming your way. How did y'all perform that with straight faces? I would have been rolling on the floor in laughter every time! XOXO, Missy

Is 'pushing artists' part of your job as a producer and was it a hard thing to do in the case of Mister Garrison? Do we actually have to wait for the record itself to hear that? As for what I've heard of "Departures" thus far, I think you two are a tough team to beat... if this sound is the result of bouncing ideas off someone and all that 'pushing', it's genuinely great!! Oh, and speaking of pushing someone or something, that's a really cool photograph.... red looks good on you:

... an amazing desk indeed... Lots of exciting news on your website, great... thanks for the update! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Exciting updates, Matthew! Congratulations and good luck! P.S. WOW! That desk looks like the control panel at NASA! Random question not related to music but NYC: Just curious how the economy is up there? I have a good number friends in NY who lost their jobs. Does it seem to be getting better?

I think that picture is pretty old, maybe that was from the cosmos sessions? That studio is no longer around.
I dunno bout the economy. I'm busier and doing better than ever so I can't say it's getting worse.
I dunno many folks that have gotten laid off personally...
NYC is great. Fall is approaching, that rules!

Glad to hear you're busy, Matthew! All the laid-off folks I know are architects. The problem is no one is building right now. I guess other parts of the economy are doing much better! People probably always feel they can afford to buy records, I guess, even when they can't afford to build.
I agree! Fall is the best time to be in NYC! I hope it's chilly on October 13!!!! Counting down days!

I think that picture is pretty old, maybe that was from the cosmos sessions? Not my fault that there isn't a brand-new one.. Good to hear that you are busy and doing better than ever (doesn't surprise me at all). May this never change! I'm smiling J. xx

HAHA you said folks buy records. Unfortunately they don't buy records like they used to. But if you're making records to get rich you are doing it for the wrong reasons.
No problem with the picture, just a blast from the past that's all.
