i don't use emoticons in general. there's no dumb questions. alot of times the gear looks weird or odd because a lot of it is very old. I suppose the gear would look equally as weird or odd to me, even if it was newer. But new or old, it definitely looks impressive. Although I think a great deal of making a track sound right is down to listening, I imagine the gear is not less important for the final result and it takes long to actually get to know how to use it and make the most of it. I really like what I've heard of your work. How long did it take you to get where you are now? we tend to gravitate to the classic pieces from the 60/70s. thats the gear that gives me and johnny's favorite albums their sounds. so we try to use the same stuff when we can. Have you ever done something like recording the very same song twice, using different studios/gear, old and new, just to spot the 'sonic' difference. If money or time wasn't an issue, would you ever do something like this? What's your favourite song on "Departures"?

i've been recording and making music my whole life. professionally in NYC since 2002. favorite "departures" track changes everyday... i haven't done a song completely twice, sometimes i've gone back and redone some element of the song. maybe resung a vocal or replayed a guitar or something. try to do it right the first time. but if money was no option. perhaps i'd experiment with stuff to that effect. it has to start with a great song, then a great performance, then some nice gear and capture that special moment.

As ever, thank you so much for taking the time, Mister Shane!
(... I didn't mean to force a reply I swear, if it came across as that, I'm sorry.)

Will we have the lyrics with the CD ? ;D yes definitely. relief... I just love to have the lyrics... otherwise I often just don't understand the entire lyrics, and that would be a shame.

I did most of John's sound at his NYC shows involving a full band. I imagine if the gig is big enough he'll bring me over to do the sound. I wonder if the gig at Water Rats is big enough?!

There will likely be a couple NYC dates in August. John's looking to do a solo gig and a full band gig to launch the album here in August.
But nothing is booked yet.
